The Diamond Industry
Antwerp is, to this day, the world’s most important diamond trading centre. Antwerp has been the capital of the world diamond trade for more than five centuries and is widely recognized as the leader in the industry today, in more ways than one. Consequently, this activity is deeply rooted in a solid and strongly internationally oriented ecosystem, that has withstood the test of time and economic turmoil.
Statistics from 2016 show that around 84% of the world’s rough diamonds and 50% of all polished diamonds pass through Antwerp at some point.
